4,000 Thank You Cards Honor Arizona’s Guard Members
Phoenix, AZ – (Nov. 24, 2024) – On the anniversary of September 11, communities across Arizona came together to honor and appreciate the service of the Arizona Army National Guard and Arizona Air National Guard in a heartfelt way. Through a collaboration between the Arizona Interfaith Movement (AIFM), the Arizona Coalition for Military Families (ACMF), and Just Serve, over 4,000 handwritten thank-you cards were delivered to service members, offering messages of gratitude and encouragement.
This inspiring effort was spearheaded by Judy Renfro, an active AIFM member, and director of Just Serve, an organization that connects volunteers with meaningful service opportunities. Judy partnered with faith community youth groups and teachers, encouraging young people to express their appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve in the National Guard.
Representing the Arizona Interfaith Movement, Mike Wold, a U.S. Navy veteran, personally delivered the cards to National Guard representatives. Receiving the heartfelt messages were Amy Smith, Soldier and Family Readiness Specialist at the Arizona Army National Guard; Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Smith of the Arizona Army National Guard; and John Akram, Human Resources Specialist at the Arizona Air National Guard. The moment was captured in a powerful image, symbolizing the deep connection between Arizona’s communities and its service members.
This initiative is a testament to the power of community, gratitude, and faith-based service. The thousands of cards delivered serve as a reminder to those in uniform that their service is seen, valued, and appreciated—not just on anniversaries, but every day.
