One of the cornerstones of the Be Connected program and Arizona Coalition for Military Families is equipping our community to access help and be a helper. Since 2009, the Coalition has provided training and education to over 55,000 community members throughout Arizona.

No, there is no cost to participate. The Arizona Coalition for Military Families provides all workshops at no cost through the Be Connected program.

Yes. Our team is dedicated to providing flexible and accessible training options to maximize the reach and impact of our programs. Many of our workshops can be conducted as an in-service for groups or organizations. We can even tailor the training to meet the specific needs of your group, ensuring that all participants gain the most relevant and useful information. If you represent a group or organization that would benefit from our training, please email community@arizonacoalition.org to schedule a session.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

  • Offered as a two-day in person course

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day in person workshop from LivingWorks. The curriculum is focused on helping participants learn to prevent suicide, including recognizing the signs, providing skilled intervention, and developing a safety plan. Learn more and find a workshop

Arizona Veteran Supportive Campus

  • Offered on demand to certified Arizona Veteran Supportive Campus organizations

The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services oversees the Arizona Veteran Supportive Campus (AVSC) program, which aims to enhance support for military-connected students pursuing higher education. To become certified as an AVSC and to maintain certification, organizations must complete training provided by the Arizona Coalition for Military Families. Learn more about the AVSC program. Arizona Veteran Supportive Employer

  • Offered on demand to organizations seeking to become a certified Arizona Veteran Supportive Employer

Arizona public and private sector employers can earn the Arizona Veteran Supportive Employer (AVSE) designation through training provided by the Arizona Coalition for Military Families. The AVSE designation signifies organizations that have made additional effort to recruit, hire and retain service members, veterans and their families. Learn more about the AVSE program.

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means Training

  • Offered virtually on demand by the Zero Suicide Institute

Reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. This course is about how to reduce access to the methods people use to pursue suicide. It covers who needs lethal means counseling and how to work with people at risk for suicide. Mental Health First Aid

  • Offered at various times in the community through a partnership with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing

The Mental Health First Aid training curriculum focuses on equipping community members to respond to people experiencing mental health challenges in the same way CPR and First Aid prepare a person to respond to a physical health situation. This workshop, tailored to the specific needs of the military and veteran community, is held by various community organizations. There are options for Adult or Veteran programs as well as local and online access. Download the training flyer for more information.

Military Immersion

  • Offered on demand in the community and annually at the Statewide Symposium in Support of Service Members, Veterans & Their Family Members

Military Immersion Training offers civilians an unparalleled opportunity to experience a slice of military life. Held in partnership with the Arizona National Guard, these immersive training sessions provide a unique learning experience, allowing civilians to gain a deeper understanding of military culture and operations. Participants benefit from hands-on activities and direct interaction with military personnel, fostering stronger connections and mutual respect. This training not only enhances personal insight but also equips attendees with the knowledge and skills to better support service members and veterans in their communities.

Military Culture

  • Offered virtually on demand through Psycharmor.

This series provides an in-depth exploration of military service and culture, focusing on the commitment, values, diversity, and challenges within the military. Through personal stories and interviews with service members, participants will gain insights into the benefits of military service and understand the core values and diverse subcultures within the military, the reasons behind military service, and the challenges faced by service members and their families. Military/Veteran Resource Navigation

  • Offered virtually every month by the Arizona Coalition for Military Families

This is the signature workshop for the Arizona Coalition for Military Families and Be Connected program. Resource navigation workshop focuses on equipping every person to be an open door to connect service members, veterans and their families to support and resources. Our goal is to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of participants so they can be a helper when the opportunity arises. Resource navigation training is held regularly and can be conducted in-service for groups. Learn more and register for an upcoming training.

PsychArmor Online Learning

  • Offered virtually on demand through a partnership with PsychArmor

The Arizona Coalition for Military Families is pleased to partner with PsychArmor to provide high-quality online training specific to topics related to service members, veterans, and their families. There are dozens of courses available at no cost. Visit PsychArmor to get started.

safeTALK

  • Offered as a four-hour in person course

We’ve partnered with LivingWorks for their safeTALK workshop. This is a four-hour training designed to equip individuals with the skills to recognize and respond to someone thinking about suicide. This globally recognized course empowers participants to make a difference using a simple, effective model. Each year, over 120,000 people attend, making it the world’s fastest-growing suicide prevention skills training. In this training, you’ll learn how to identify someone at risk and connect them to further support, with a primary focus on your role as a connector. Learn more and register for an upcoming workshop.

Statewide Symposium in Support of Service Members, Veterans & Their Families

Held annually since 2010 (with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic), this is the only statewide conference that brings together military, government, and community to strengthen how our community cares for and supports military members, veterans, and their families. This in person, two-day event connects people from public, private, and non-profit organizations and the community while offering the opportunity for shared learning.
