Caregiver Receives Reliable Transportation
Tucson, AZ – (Mar. 16, 2025) – For many caregivers, transportation is more than just getting from point A to point B- it’s a vital part of their ability to provide care, maintain independence, and access essential resources. In Tucson, Arizona, a dedicated son and full-time caregiver found himself facing an overwhelming challenge when his car’s transmission failed. With no reliable vehicle, taking care of his father, a decorated and disabled U.S. Navy veteran, as well as his disabled grandmother, became even more difficult. But thanks to the Arizona Coalition for Military Families (ACMF) and the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, this caring son now has a dependable vehicle.
In addition to providing full-time care for his father and grandmother, this Tucson resident is also working toward becoming a registered nurse. Without reliable transportation, balancing caregiving responsibilities and attending school became an overwhelming obstacle. Recognizing his need, ACMF nominated this family for the Recycled Rides program, which helps provide refurbished vehicles to veterans, service members, and their families in need.
Thanks to a generous donation from GEICO and expert refurbishment by Chapman Collision, The family was awarded a restored 2021 Honda Civic. This ensures that everyone can safely get to their medical appointments and that the son can continue to pursue his nursing degree without the added stress of unreliable transportation.
The ACMF partners with the NABC Recycled Rides program, which has donated over 3,500 vehicles nationwide since 2007. The program receives support from insurance companies, auto body shops, and military-support organizations. GEICO has been a leading donor to the program, contributing more than 1,000 vehicles. Chapman Collision’s involvement reflects the commitment of local businesses in Arizona to giving back to those who have sacrificed for their country.
For ACMF, this donation is part of a larger mission to support Arizona’s service members, veterans, and their families by providing connection to resources and support – drawing on a vast coalition of partners that include community members, employers, and organizations. ACMF is dedicated to ensuring those who serve, and those who care for them, have the support they need.
For this family, receiving a reliable vehicle isn’t just about transportation; it’s about stability, opportunity, and the ability to continue connecting to family, community, and vital support.
