PTSD Awareness Month is a time to recognize that just as trauma can take many forms, so can the path to healing. In Arizona, we are taking a proactive approach by focusing on upstream suicide prevention. That means making resources and support available so a family member, friend, coworker, or anyone concerned for a service member, veteran, or their family can reach out early, when stress begins to build, before it turns into something more serious.
PTSD does not always follow a single event. It can develop over time, shaped by pressure, isolation, and unresolved challenges. That’s why the Be Connected program was created: to offer a clear path to support before situations escalate or become overwhelming. Our statewide support line, 866-4AZ-VETS, connects people to resources to address a variety of needs – from healthcare to housing, from career needs to social connection.
Our approach is guided by the stress continuum, which helps people understand how their level of stress impacts their well-being and when to seek help. Be Connected offers personalized support based on where someone is on that continuum, to address needs to reduce stress to eliminate the threat of suicide. We work with people to identify and address issues, needs, and concerns, then take steps to reduce risk and build a foundation for long-term well-being.
This PTSD Awareness Month, we are highlighting the importance of connection before a crisis. You can play a part by sharing the support line and letting others know that help is available. Call 866-4AZ-VETS to connect with resources and support.
