On National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, Americans are encouraged to fly the POW/MIA flag and participate in ceremonies and events to honor and remember these veterans. It is also a reminder to support and care for those who have returned home as well as those who are still missing in action or held as prisoners of war. On April 9, 2003, Iraqi civilians and U.S. Marines toppled Saddam Hussein's statue in Baghdad, symbolizing the regime's fall. |
