Supporting a Veteran’s Widow

A call came into the Be Connected support line from a staff member of a Tucson-based cemetery asking if a Spanish translator was available. One of our support line team members was able to provide translation assistance. The woman on-site at the cemetery in Tucson was a grief-stricken widow. She was explaining that her husband, who was a veteran, had passed away and she was there to make his arrangements. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to provide translation assistance to this veteran’s family as well as any other support they may need now during this period of loss and beyond.

Service members, veterans, and their family members are encouraged to call the Be Connected support line at 866-4AZ-VETS (866-429-8387) to get connected to thousands of resources. The Be Connected support line is confidential and offered at no cost.

SkillBridge Assistance on a Tight Timeline

A service member who was about to transition into civilian life due to his retirement from the military needed assistance.

That’s when he connected with the Be Connected Career Navigation team.Employment

As the limited window of opportunity for this service member’s  SkillBridge was fast approaching, the Career Navigation team had to spring into action.

The first step was to help the service member tailor his resume to an available opportunity with one of Arizona’s Veteran Supportive Employers.

The service member was highly motivated, listened to the recommendations, and expressed gratitude for help with his resume, especially since he was in a rush to get this completed. The newly-updated and tailored resume was sent to the employer, resulting in a telephone interview.

Through this interaction, both the service member and the employer felt this was a great fit. The employer even indicated that they could have other roles available to the service member outside of what he had initially applied for. The service member was offered an in-person interview that is taking place at the time of this posting. With the guidance and support of the Be Connected Career Navigation team, the service member was able to position himself as a top candidate quickly and is now well prepared to land his next career opportunity before he is even out of the military.

Be Connected Career Navigation provides no-cost, personalized support to career seekers by providing training, resources and connection to employment opportunities.
