Partner Highlight: AHCCCS

I have had the honor of representing Arizona on a national stage at many events focused on best practices to support service members and veterans. One consistent message I always hear, no matter where I go, is that Arizona is a leader for the rest of the nation to follow in how we build partnerships and infrastructure between agencies, people, and community organizations. The Arizona Coalition for Military Families is proud to serve as the “backbone”, providing a meaningful structure that orients a variety of partners, each with its own strength, into one unit that is unified in the mission to build a supportive community for service members, veterans, and their families. We call this the Ecosystem of Support.

With this pioneering spirit of cooperation, we are very proud to highlight the partnership between the Be Connected program and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). AHCCCS is Arizona’s largest insurer and covers more than 2.3 million people across the state. Through this partnership, there is an expanded focus on ensuring members of AHCCCS, Arizona’s statewide Medicaid program, who have served or are the family member of a service member or veteran receive support for resource navigation and connection.

The Be Connected support line is available at 866-4AZ-VETS (866-429-8387) and provides no-cost, live, personal, and confidential resource navigation services.

Be Connected is a gateway to Arizona’s entire ecosystem of support of public and private sector partner organizations, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services and other state agencies, and hundreds of other partner organizations across the state.

Our dedicated support line team* has handled everything from finding a pet sitter so a veteran could enter in-patient treatment to troubleshooting transportation barriers to helping a caregiver find support. This partnership is just one more way that we can put into action our belief that by addressing the social determinants of health and offering connection to preventative resources, we can help reduce suicide among the service member and veteran population.

The Arizona Coalition for Military Families is a veteran-led non-profit organization that proudly hires veterans and military spouses, so chances are the person on the end of the line is a veteran and/or member of a military family.
