Arizona Coalition for Military Families Wins National MOAA Distinguished Service Award

The Arizona Coalition for Military Families (ACMF) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the National Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious national recognition is given to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional national leadership and service in support of the military community.

The MOAA Distinguished Service Award is a significant honor that acknowledges the ACMF’s tireless efforts to support military members, veterans, and their families – not only across Arizona but also for leading at a national level. In addition to making a significant impact in the military and veteran community in Arizona, the ACMF has provided technical assistance and support to every state and territory to help establish and support national efforts to provide vital resources, advocacy, and education for service members, veterans, and their families.

“The Arizona Coalition for Military Families is extremely honored to receive this distinguished award,” said Thomas Winkel, ACMF’s Director. “We are grateful to MOAA for their recognition of our efforts and commitment to improving the lives of service members, veterans, and military families in Arizona and supporting these efforts on the national stage for more than a decade.”

ACMF was nominated for the award by Arizona Veteran Hall of Fame (2018) member and MOAA Board of Director member Peter “Pete” Kloeber, Col. USAF (Ret.). “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the Arizona Coalition for Military Families to support the specific needs of our service members and veterans,” said Kloeber. “These important efforts improve the lives of military families across the nation and reflect MOAA’s mission to provide first-class service and support for the interests of military members at every stage of their careers.”

Key ACMF partners include the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family, the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, the U.S. Department of Veterans of Affairs, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the Office of Economic Opportunity, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Solari, Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and many more. Their partnership in ACMF’s Be Connected program serves as an example of success to all other states and territories and has been recognized by the White House, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the CDC Foundation, the Office of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, National Guard Bureau, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Points of Light Foundation and the New York Times, among others.

“This award is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our staff, volunteers, and partners who work tirelessly to ensure that service members, veterans and their families receive the care and support they need,” said Winkel. “It highlights the important work being done to support all who serve and we hope that it also inspires others to get involved.”

ACMF joins the ranks of past MOAA Distinguished Service Award recipients including Starbucks, Toby Keith, Safeway, and LinkedIn. MOAA will present the Distinguished Service Award to the ACMF at an April event on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
