Moving From Crisis Intervention to Proactive Prevention
Over the last decade, despite the efforts of many, the rate of suicide for Arizona veterans has been more than double the general population. Historically, suicide prevention efforts have focused primarily on crisis intervention. That is changing. Arizona took the first steps to add an upstream prevention approach by establishing the Be Connected program.
When any Arizona service member, veteran, family member, or helper can reach out with a need, Be Connected responds to provide support, navigation, and resource connection.
- What if we didn’t have to wait for someone to reach out or be in crisis?
- What if we could identify those at higher risk and proactively reach out?

Our Coaching Into Connection and Care Transition services were created to reduce the suicide risk of those veterans, service members and their families who may be at the highest risk for suicide. These services can help those who are socially isolated and need assistance navigating resources.
Be Connected services are available to all Arizona service members, veterans, and family members. Our team is standing by to provide resource connection and navigation.
Anyone is welcome to complete a Be Connected referral form for themselves or on behalf of someone else who may need a resource connection and navigation assistance. To start the process, please complete a Be Connected referral form. For Type of Referral, select Support Line, and for Support Line Service, select Standard Support Line referral. Complete the remaining fields on the universal referral form with as many details as possible.
Next Steps: A member of the Be Connected team will reach out within two business days. They will make up to three attempts to contact the person.
