PHOENIX — A new resource center for veterans is open in Surprise, providing services that include a full-time AmeriCorp member and part-time Be Connected navigator.
The aim of the resource center is to simply provide support services, that will be rolled out in phases, for veterans and military members that are crucial to their well-being, according to a press release.
Located near the intersection of Bell and El Mirage roads, the center was made possible thanks to a large number of groups including the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, Northern Arizona University, Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, Rio Salado Community College and the City of Surprise.
“This collaboration draws in such a wide variety of partners that are all unified under one goal – providing support and assistance to Arizona’s service members, veterans and their families,” Thomas Winkel, former U.S. Marine and Director of ACMF, said in the release.
The city of Surprise offered the space to ACMF as a sign of goodwill, according to the release.
“Honoring and supporting the veteran community has always been a priority for Surprise,” Surprise Mayor Skip Hall said.
The location is next to the Surprise Resource Center, which provides social service support for all residents in the West Valley and is not just reserved for military members.
