President Joe Biden announced the construction of the McCain National Library, a tribute to McCain’s legacy.

On September 28, 2023, leaders from the Arizona Coalition for Military Families attended an event honoring the late Senator John McCain. The new McCain National Library will be funded by the American Rescue Plan in partnership with the McCain Institute and Arizona State University. It will provide education, work, and health programs to underserved communities.

The 80,000-square-foot library will house McCain’s archives, a visitor’s center, and offices for the McCain Institute, a nonpartisan think tank. Located near Tempe Town Lake, the library will serve as a solutions center for learning about leadership, democracy, and national security. ASU President Michael Crow emphasized its role in carrying forward McCain’s legacy, creating a space for future generations to learn from his life and career.

The event highlighted the respect Arizonans have for John McCain and his influence extending beyond politics into the state’s identity. The new library aims to honor that influence, serving as a beacon of McCain’s values.
