On September 22, 2023, the Arizona Coalition for Military Families held a meeting of the Arizona Veterans Employment Council. This event focused on gathering diverse perspectives on expanding the footprint of service members, veterans, and their family members in our state. Several key prompts were discussed, including:

  • Does Arizona want to attract veterans and transitioning service members?
  • What decisions can we make to encourage them to come to Arizona?
  • What support is needed for this initiative?
  • Who should be involved?
  • What pathways should we use to communicate this initiative?

Welcoming and supporting service members, veterans, and their families can be a vital way to strengthen Arizona’s community. These individuals bring a wealth of skills, discipline, and leadership that can significantly benefit our local economy and enrich our social fabric. Veterans often possess advanced technical skills and leadership experience that are invaluable to businesses and organizations. By supporting them, we ensure a smoother transition to civilian life, reducing unemployment and homelessness among veterans. Furthermore, fostering a welcoming environment for military and veteran families strengthens our communities, as these families contribute to the cultural and social diversity that makes Arizona a vibrant place to live. The insights from this meeting will help shape Arizona’s efforts to better support its veteran community, ensuring that we continue to be a state that values and honors the contributions of those who have served our nation.
