SUMMARY:Gulf War Ceasefire Declared
DESCRIPTION:The Gulf War was a conflict between Iraq and a coalition of 42 countries led by the United States. The war began with Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on August 2\, 1990. The coalition’s efforts were carried out in two phases: Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. On February 27\, President Bush announced that the coalition would cease hostilities at midnight on February 28. Iraq accepted the 12 U.N. Security Council resolutions on February 28\, and the cease-fire took hold. As part of the peace terms\, Iraq agreed to recognize Kuwait’s sovereignty and get rid of all its weapons of mass destruction.
