SUMMARY:Battle of Mosul (2004)
DESCRIPTION:In November 2004\, during the Iraq War\, the Battle of Mosul unfolded as insurgents attempted to seize control of Mosul\, Iraq’s second-largest city\, coinciding with the U.S.-led offensive in Fallujah. The insurgents\, comprising groups like Ansar al-Sunna and al-Qaeda in Iraq\, capitalized on the redeployment of U.S. forces to Fallujah\, intensifying attacks and briefly overtaking police stations and key infrastructures. In response\, U.S. forces\, alongside Iraqi security personnel and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters\, launched counteroffensives to reclaim the city. The ensuing urban combat resulted in significant casualties: approximately 18 U.S. soldiers were killed and 170 wounded\, with insurgent losses estimated at around 600.
